Listed shipping company seeks Group Controller to part-take in further growth

MPC Container Ships ASA (“the Company”) was formed in April 2017 with a management that has been active in the shipping industry for decades. Listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, the main business of the Company is to own and operate a fleet of container ships, focusing on the feeder segment between 1,000 and 3,000 TEU. Specifically, the Company seeks to capitalise on favourable market fundamentals and historically low asset values in the container feeder segment. Since inception two years ago, the Company has developed into one of the largest owners of container feeder vessels globally, with a fleet of 69 vessels, a current market capitalisation of approximately USD 300m and a USD 200m listed bond.
The Company is registered and has its main business office in Oslo, Norway.

MPC Container Ships ASA seeks to strengthen its financial function and is looking for a skilled and ambitious colleague to assume a new position as Group Controller. The position will be working with external financial reporting to the Oslo Stock Exchange and with internal controlling and reporting tasks towards management and our Board of Directors. Moreover, the position will take part in further developing the Company’s financial functions. The right candidate will be a part of a young team of five professionals at the Company’s main office in Oslo. Simultaneously, the position will have a close co-operation with colleagues in both Hamburg, Germany and Amsterdam/Rotterdam, the Netherlands. As such, the position will entail some travelling.

The position will report to our General Manager Norway and our Head of Group Accounting/Controlling.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial controlling of entities within the group, including Norwegian parent company
  • Management and Board of Directors reporting
  • Preparation of interim and annual reports to the Oslo Stock Exchange
  • Project-related activities (capital markets, financing and others)
  • Strengthening routines for the financial and controlling functions within the group
  • Coordination and communication with auditors
  • Contribute in the budgeting process

Qualifications:

  • Higher university degree in business administration, finance or accounting
  • 2-4 years relevant experience, preferably from an audit firm or international company
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Norwegian GAAP
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience from the shipping industry is an advantage but no requirement
  • Highly competent in using MS Office and preferable accounting/consolidation systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Norwegian
  • Team player, motivated, eager to learn and to gain new knowledge both within a financial function at a listed company and of the shipping industry
