Group Legal Counsel

Local Unit & Position Description

DNV Group Legal is responsible for providing legal advice to all business areas on a global basis and consist of 25 lawyers and support staff in a distributed team located at Høvik, in Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Hamburg, London and Houston. The Group Legal function is headed by the Group Legal Director at Group headquarters at Høvik and reports to the Group CFO.

Group Legal is looking for a candidate to join the team at Høvik. The candidate will be a part of Group Legal’s corporate team and the Group Legal team dedicated to DNV’s Energy Systems business area.

Corporate

The Group Legal corporate team is responsible for providing legal support on a global basis in corporate law matters, including M&A transactions, internal restructurings, and general advice to senior management.

DNV’s strategy plan for the period until 2025 includes an increased focus on in-organic growth and it is therefore foreseen that M&A activities will be a focus area for the organization going forward. Group Legal’s corporate team is a key player in DNV’s M&A activities.

Energy Systems

The Group Legal Energy Systems team provides legal advice to all service lines within business area Energy Systems, comprising both Renewable Energy and Oil & Gas markets. Services include certification and verification services, marine services, inspection, testing and advisory work. Working in the Group Legal team dedicated to the Energy Systems business area you will among other assist in negotiating complex international contracts, provide legal support to business development, be responsible for claim and litigation support to the business area and provide legal advice on a variety of issues.

We are seeking one high-achieving lawyer with a commercial mindset and experience from M&A and commercial contract law within the Oil & Gas/Renewable Energy industry from a well-renowned law firm or in-house legal position.

The vacant position will initially focus on M&A, internal restructurings, and other national and international corporate/commercial matters to cover for current lawyers on parental leave. The focus of the position will thereafter shift to support the Energy Systems business area. 

The position offers great opportunities for the correct candidate to develop both legal and commercial skills.

Position Qualifications

• Master of Law degree or equivalent from a Norwegian or foreign university with solid academic credentials
• Minimum 3-5 years’ relevant working experience, preferably from the Oil & Gas/Renewable Energy industry
• Admitted to bar with all necessary certificates to practice law in Norway (preferable)
• Excellent communication skills, both soft, oral and written.
• Proficiency in both Norwegian and English. Other language skills are considered an advantage.
• Strong integrity and work ethics
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Project management skills and experience
