Commercial Manager

Hydro Energy has more than 100 years of experience in production of renewable energy. Today, we are one of the three largest operators of hydropower production in Norway and a large power market player in the Nordic region and Brazil. We are responsible for developing new business opportunities for Hydro within both renewable energy, hydrogen and batteries, and we provide support to the rest of Hydro’s business areas on contracts, security of supply and energy framework conditions.

Since 1905, Hydro has turned natural resources into valuable products for people and businesses with focus on a safe and good workplace for our 30,000 employees in more than 140 locations.

Hydro is committed to leading the way in shaping a sustainable future and in doing so, creating more viable societies by developing natural resources into products and solutions in innovative and efficient ways to industries that matter.

We need to move away from fossil fuels, and for the world to reach net zero emissions in 2050 we need renewable hydrogen. Hydro’s new renewable hydrogen company will help drive the uptake of green hydrogen in sectors we can’t directly electrify – such as big parts of industry, long-distance transport and shipping.

The EU calls hydrogen the ‘the missing part in the puzzle to a fully decarbonized economy’. We aim to be part of solving that puzzle.

We are looking for a Commercial Manager to join Hydro’s new green hydrogen company, an industrial venture with global ambitions.

You will have your office place at Hydro’s HQ in Oslo, but some traveling will be required.

What we offer
We aim to be an early mover in the hydrogen industry and help industries succeed with their energy transition and cut emissions. As Commercial Manager you will play a crucial role on this exciting journey.
You will join a hard-working and fun-loving team, triggered by doing their best in an international and dynamic work environment. The team is growing, and you can count on many new colleges going forward. You’ll have room to shape your own role and really make your mark on the business.

Main responsibilities
As Commercial Manager in the new company, you will play a pivotal part in building commercial success that drive value and growth. This will require deep customer engagement and a balance between long-term positioning and short-term revenue creation.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Manage commercial activities as part of the commercial team, contributing to driving an agile and innovative business culture.
  • Build and manage a strong opportunity pipeline of supply to Hydro’s businesses and external customers, optimizing value creation from synergies between internal and external demand and thereby shaping configuration of the hydrogen assets that create value.
  • Originate project opportunities and contribute to assessing M&A opportunities and driving pipeline development
  • Contribute to the financing strategy and structuring for projects
  • Contribute to shaping the business strategy, including regional market strategies complemented by partnerships across the value chain to accelerate the development and create project opportunities.
  • As a key lever to creating value, act as an integrated knowledge partner to both internal and external customers

Who are you?

We believe that the right candidate is motivated by responsibility, change and the opportunity to make a difference, resulting in firm business commitments. You have a proven ability to utilize your competence across the business and technology space to create commercial value.

To succeed, strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed. The right candidate should be able to communicate complex issues in a clear and understandable way to form industrial partnerships and creating mutually beneficial relationships. You are value-driven with unwavering integrity, and have an entrepreneurial spirit and “can do” attitude with high focus on collaboration.

Desired Qualifications

  • Higher education, preferably a degree in business administration, finance, economics, engineering or similar
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant international experience in the energy or industrial sectors, in roles that have been exposed to value creation in transitional strategic settings.
  • A strong commercial background and a track record in turning opportunities into firm business commitments and of building partnerships
  • Understanding of and experience with the emerging energy industry transition
  • Fluent in written and oral English. Norwegian is preferred and German or Portuguese is an advantage.
