Business Developer, Recycling Center of Excellence

Would you like to make an impact on our recycling business in the years to come? At Hydro we are a global family of more than 30 000 people that extract, produce, shape and reuse the world’s most flexible and sustainable metal into infinite innovations and applications. Recycling of aluminium is a growth area across Hydro’s Business Areas and a key component in Hydro’s strategy to lift profitability and drive sustainability. 

To enforce Hydro’s recycling growth agenda, a Recycling Center of Excellence (CoE) was established two years ago. The Recycling CoE is organized within the business area Aluminium Metal (AM) but has the objective to coordinate and govern Hydro’s recycling activities across all business areas. With the support of the Recycling CoE, both AM and Hydro Extrusion are currently maturing and executing expansion projects. 

The Recycling CoE is instrumental in identifying and developing Hydro’s recycling growth opportunities and is therefore looking for a Business Developer to strengthen the organization within business development and strategy. The position will interact extensively with management connected to recycling globally and have exposure towards the business areas Aluminium Metal and Extrusion as well as Corporate.

Area of Responsibility
The Recycling CoE currently has a staff of some 20 persons, of which 3 in Business Development and Strategy. As the aluminium industry is trending towards a circular low-carbon economy, you will be responsible for analysis to define our strategic direction, identify business opportunities as well as participating in and leading teams to pursue those opportunities. Among specific areas of responsibility:

• Annually and on ad-hoc basis perform analysis to define strategic direction for Hydro’s recycling business
• Annually, in dialogue with Business Areas and various plant management, perform analysis of Hydro’s current recycling asset portfolio across Business Areas and development options
• Identify new recycling growth opportunities across recycling value chain from scrap sourcing and sorting to production of aluminium products (greenfield and brownfield) and mature them in close collaboration with relevant Business Area
• Identify potential acquisition targets, perform valuation analysis and participate in teams to pursue acquisition opportunities
• Act as project manager for specific identified recycling projects 
• Perform profitability analysis of recycling investment proposals 

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Economics, Science or Finance
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (market/industry analysis, management consultant, strategy, business development)
• Strong quantitative and analytical abilities
• Ability to translate analysis into strategic implications
• Experience with stakeholder management in large organisations is an advantage 
• Advanced in Microsoft Office package, primarily Excel and Power Point
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Excellent English proficiency

You need to be self-going and independent, and also a good team player thriving in a cross-cultural environment interacting with people. 

Additional information
You will report to Head of Business Development & Strategy.

The position will require some international traveling.
