Legal Counsel

We are seeking a development-oriented and professionally skilled Legal Counsel with charter party and maritime law expertise who is able and eager to work on international cases in a quality-focused and ambitious shipping company.

The Legal Department in Oslo handles cases within all our areas across the company’s offices in Oslo, Singapore, Dubai and Manila. You will be part of a small highly skilled legal team and report to the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Managing and following up on-going arbitration and court cases together with external lawyers and our insurers.
  • Actively assisting our commercial and operational teams at all our offices.
  • Providing legal advice within the company’s business areas, primarily within the fields of maritime law and chartering law.
  • Providing legal support in the development of new concepts and services for shipping.
  • Participating in project teams and providing legal input in connection with transactions such as the purchase and sale of ships, contracting, etc.
  • Contract negotiations, drafting agreements and legal follow-up of various types of cases.
  • Proactive identification and management of legal risks in close cooperation with our business units.
  • Conducting general quality assurance work internally as well as preparing and carrying out training on legal matters.


  • Candidate of Law.
  • Law license and relevant experience, preferably from a law firm, insurance company (working with FD&D and/or P&I) or within the shipping industry.
  • Experience with dispute resolution and charter party disputes.
  • Experience with international transactions is an advantage.
  • Interest in and understanding of business.
  • Good communication skills in Norwegian and English, both written and oral.
