As our previous Head of Legal & Compliance has recently been promoted, there is now an opportunity for someone new to take on this instrumental, global role in Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS). We can offer a wide array of legal and compliance related topics and you will get to apply your trade in a very flat, unbureaucratic structure which allows for quick decision making.

What you will be doing:  

As a key member of Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) finance department, the Head of Legal & Compliance will work closely with Vice President Finance and other key stakeholders in the WSS management team, in addition to other counterparts in the wider Wilhelmsen group. The Head of Legal & Compliance will ensure that activities of the company are in line with corporate governance standards as well as applicable laws and tax regulations. Acting as an efficient support to WSS set business goals. The position reports directly to Vice President Finance Wilhelmsen Ships Service.  

You will be responsible for:  

  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure compliance 

  • Support WSS and its executives on a variety of legal issues 

  • Assist with tasks related to registration of directors, drafting board and shareholder resolutions with the support of external counsel when needed 

  • Procurement of services on local legal issues on a case-by-case basis, including, but not limited to acquisitions and Joint Venture agreements 

  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust 

  • Maintaining WSS Terms & Conditions framework for customer contracts, and being the escalation point for legal wording of individual customer/supplier contracts on an ad hoc basic, whilst working closely with the contract review teams in WSS 

  • Implement policies and procedures and manage WSS compliance  

Required experience and skills: 

  • Master’s degree in law or business

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience at a law firm or in-house legal department

  • Solid knowledge in Office of Foreign Asset Control and anti - bribery law

  • Analytical and capable of transferring theoretical knowledge into practice

  • Ability to work on own initiative and in a team

  • Structured and accurate

  • Good command of English

Work Location: The role will have its base at our headquarter at Lysaker, Norway, but flexible working arrangements will be available. Some travel should be expected.
