Would you like to join a dynamic, international team in an exciting small E&P company?

Longboat Energy was established at the end of 2019 to create a full-cycle E&P company through value M&A and near-field exploration. Longboat Energy have drilled 9 wells and made six hydrocarbon discoveries since 2021.  
In July 2023, Longboat Energy completed a transaction with Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd (“JAPEX”) to form a new joint venture company in Norway named Longboat JAPEX Norge AS. Longboat JAPEX later announced its first production acquisition in Norway of interests in the Statfjord satellite fields: Statfjord Øst and Sygna. 

It was announced the 17th of June 2024 that the company will be fully owned by Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. after Longboat Energy PLC sold their 50.1% of the shares to the Tokyo listed company (market cap: USD 2.2 billions). JAPEX places the acquisition of new oil and gas interests as one of the priority items in the 'JAPEX Management Plan 2022-2030' and has positioned the Norway as one of its main target areas.

Longboat JAPEX Norge AS is a small, full cycle E&P company located in Stavanger. On 17th of June Japan Petroleum Exploration Co (JAPEX) announced that they will become the sole owner of the company. JAPEX is listed on the Tokyo stock exchange and has Norway as one of its main target areas for growth. To assist with this growth ambition, we are searching for a Controller with branch experience to join our diverse team of skilled professionals. The right candidate can be offered rewarding tasks and responsibilities.

The Controller will play an important role in overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective financial planning and analysis. The role requires a deep understanding of the E&P industry, and the ability to manage complex financial issues in a small Company focused on continuous growth.

The ideal candidate has critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask and work in a cross functional environment. The ability to work independently and to be a good team player are key qualities for this role.

The controller will report to the Finance Manager in Norway.

Main working tasks:

  • Responsible for the controlling function of hydrocarbons accounting, including:
    • Follow up of contracts, invoicing and income
    • Follow up of specific oil accounting topics such as PRD, Reserves, Opex&Capex, DD&A rate, over/underlift and decommissioning costs
    • Tax related matters (i.e. Norm price)
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports to senior management and stakeholders
  • Assist with annual budgets and quarterly update forecasts
  • Monitor and control of operational costs
  • Responsible of providing Management with cash flow forecasts on weekly basis and Involvement in the long-term working capital model
  • Correspondence with Oil Taxation Office (OTO) and other relevant external parties such as SSB, NPD and RNB 
  • Communicate with external auditors
  • Support Pro & Contra settlements when applicable
  • Ad hoc tasks

Qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience within finance, accounting or controlling  
  • Proven experience with E&P companies including solid knowledge of the Norwegian regulations (accounting and tax) for oil and gas companies
  • Advanced Excel user and good knowledge of ERP systems
  • Strong communication skills in English

  • The lack of a degree can be compensated with experience
